The name is a compound of two neighborhoods the station stands between, Nihonbashi-Bakurocho and Nihonbashi-Yokoyamacho, and the station itself is the middle link in a chain of three. When Toei opened it on 21 December 1978 as S09, transfer arrangements with Higashi-nihombashi on the Asakusa Line and Bakurocho on the JR Sobu Rapid Line began the same day, all three connected by underground passages.

Inside, it is a pair of side platforms with a row of central pillars between the tracks, on the second basement level, with ticket gates both one floor above and two floors below – the deeper set leads toward the JR station. Shinjuku Line express trains have stopped here since 24 December 1997, which matters more than the station’s modest surroundings suggest: the 2024 Toei survey counted 112,233 entries and exits a day, putting it third on the line behind Shinjuku and Jimbocho.

There is no separate Sunday timetable, and the December 30 – January 3 period runs the holiday timetable.
