Uchisaiwaicho Station (内幸町)
I07 opened on 27 November 1973 as a station on Toei Line 6, which took the name Mita Line on 1 July 1978. It lies 6.4 km from the line’s southern end at Meguro and is the southernmost station in Chiyoda, although only just: the southern half of the structure runs under Shimbashi and Nishi-shimbashi, in Minato. For years the name boards carried Nishi-shimbashi as a secondary name, and the current signs have dropped it.
The box is stacked in three layers, which is unusual for a two-track station. The ticket hall is at B1, a shared utility tunnel runs the length of B2, and the island platform sits below both at B3, behind platform doors. The name comes from the district above. Uchisaiwaicho means the ground inside the Saiwaibashi gate of the Edo Castle outer moat; it was Marunouchi Saiwaicho under the shogunate and took its present form on 25 March 1872. In 2024 the station was used by 38,025 people on an average day.
Finding Uchisaiwaicho on the signs
Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.
Station numbers at Uchisaiwaicho
Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Frequently asked questions
From the ground inside the Saiwaibashi gate of the outer moat of Edo Castle. Under the shogunate the district was called Marunouchi Saiwaicho; the shorter Uchisaiwaicho was adopted on 25 March 1872 and the station took it when it opened in 1973.
No. Shimbashi is about 230 m away, but the operators do not treat the two as one station and there is no corridor between them. The Ginza Line also crosses directly under the Nishi-shimbashi junction just beyond this station without a platform of its own.
