Toei’s Shinjuku Line reached this corner of Kanda on 16 March 1980, and the platform it brought sits unusually far down: a single island on the fourth basement level, 6.5 km out from Shinjuku. Its tracks are numbered 3 and 4 rather than 1 and 2, because the numbering carries on from Awajicho next door on the Marunouchi Line. The two are joined below the street, as is Shin-ochanomizu on the Chiyoda Line, so three names cover one interchange.

The code to look for is S07. Trains here are not all Toei’s own: Shinjuku Line services run through onto the Keio network beyond Shinjuku. Twelve street exits open along Yasukuni-dori, between Hongo-dori and Sotobori-dori. Kanda on the Ginza Line lies about 300 m away but is not a recognized transfer and no corridor connects them, which catches out travelers who assume every nearby name on the map can be reached without surfacing. Toei counted 73,254 passengers a day here in 2024.

Finding Ogawamachi on the signs

Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.

Station numbers at Ogawamachi

Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Departure times come from the operators’ own GTFS timetables (ODPT GTFS Toei-Train-GTFS (version 20261009, valid 2026-03-14..2027-03-12) + TokyoMetro-Train-GTFS (version 20261008, valid 2026-09-19..2027-03-12)). Japan publishes two subway timetables: 平日 weekdays and 土休日 Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. There is no separate Sunday timetable, and the December 30 – January 3 period runs the holiday timetable.

What is near Ogawamachi Station?

Street level is offices and apartment blocks, with Tokyo Denki University and the Nihon University College of Science and Technology at Surugadai both within a few hundred metres, so the morning flow is students and office workers rather than sightseers. The dome of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral, Nikolai-do, stands about 350 m away, and Otahime Shrine, Awaji Pocket Park and the small Kanda Renjakutei theater are all a little closer. Kamio Memorial Hospital is about 220 m from the exits.

Frequently asked questions

They carry on from platforms 1 and 2 at Awajicho on the Marunouchi Line, immediately next door below ground. Rather than start again from one, the Toei platforms were given the next numbers in the sequence, which is why a single-island station appears to be missing its first two tracks.

Yes. Underground passages run from Ogawamachi to Awajicho on the Marunouchi Line and to Shin-ochanomizu on the Chiyoda Line, and the three are handled as one interchange. Kanda on the Ginza Line is also nearby, but it has no connecting corridor and is not treated as a transfer at all.

Only the Shinjuku Line stops at Ogawamachi Station. Its station number is S07.
On weekdays the earliest departure from Ogawamachi is around 05:02 and the latest around 00:22, depending on the line and the direction. Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays follow the other published timetable; the table above gives both for every line and direction.
According to the operators’ own accessibility pages there is a step-free route from the street through the gates to the platform. Toei: every station has elevators and a street-gate-platform “1-route” is secured. Lift locations and opening hours are on the operator page linked in the accessibility section above.
A single adult fare from Ogawamachi to Shinjuku on Toei Subway lines is ¥220 with an IC card (¥220 with a paper ticket). Tokyo charges by distance, so the fare depends on how far you go and on which company’s lines you use — the full tables are on the fares page.
