Akabanebashi Station (赤羽橋)
Akabanebashi takes its name from the bridge overhead, which carries Sakurada-dori over the Furukawa river, with the Metropolitan Expressway’s inner circular route crossing above that. Toei opened the station on 12 December 2000 and numbered it E21. Gates and ticket machines are on the first basement level, the single island platform one floor below, and panels of glass made by an Italian manufacturer are set into the platform walls – an unusual finish among Oedo Line stations. A crossover on the Azabu-juban side allows trains to reverse if they have to, although no scheduled service turns back here.
Expectations for the station were modest: about 3,000 boardings a day were forecast when it opened. The 2024 Toei survey counted 37,465 entries and exits daily, an order of magnitude more. One quirk is worth knowing before you plan a change of line – Shibakoen on the Mita Line is roughly 500 m away but is not treated as the same station and no passage joins the two, so moving between them means walking at street level.
Finding Akabanebashi on the signs
Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.
Station numbers at Akabanebashi
Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Departure times come from the operators’ own GTFS timetables (ODPT GTFS Toei-Train-GTFS (version 20261009, valid 2026-03-14..2027-03-12) + TokyoMetro-Train-GTFS (version 20261008, valid 2026-09-19..2027-03-12)). Japan publishes two subway timetables: 平日 weekdays and 土休日 Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. There is no separate Sunday timetable, and the December 30 – January 3 period runs the holiday timetable.
