Togoshi Station (戸越)
A04 opened on 15 November 1968 as part of Toei Line 1, ten years before the line took the name Asakusa. The planners’ working title had been Chikatetsu Togoshi-ginza, after the shopping street the station serves, but it went into service as plain Togoshi. The name had a predecessor elsewhere in the city: from 1927 to 1936 the station now called Shimo-shimmei, on the Tokyu Oimachi Line, was itself called Togoshi.
Its single island platform is one of three near-identical boxes the operator built along the Dai-ni Keihin road in Shinagawa and calls its standard station for that road. Togoshi, Nakanobu and Magome share the plan, with Magome as the pattern; Togoshi and Nakanobu differ a little because a utility tunnel runs between the concourse and platform levels, and the interiors were finished differently so that passengers can tell one from another. An emergency single crossover at the Nakanobu end has been removed. In 2024 Togoshi was used by 21,299 people on an average day.
Finding Togoshi on the signs
Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.
Station numbers at Togoshi
Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

What is near Togoshi Station?
Togoshi serves the Togoshi district and the Togoshi Ginza shopping street, which has a station of its own on the Tokyu Ikegami Line; since 1 April 2017 the two have been linked for commuter-pass holders, though they keep separate names and separate gates. Hoshi University is nearby. Closer to the exits are Togoshidai Junior High School, about 180 m away, Togoshi Hachiman Jinja Shrine about 370 m, and small parks at Togoshidai and Hiratsuka. Gotanda is the next station.

Frequently asked questions
It is the subway station for the Togoshi Ginza shopping street, and the planners even wanted to call it that. Togoshi-ginza itself is a separate station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line. The two have been connected for season-ticket purposes since 1 April 2017, but they are different railways with different gates.
Shimo-shimmei on the Tokyu Oimachi Line carried the name Togoshi from 1927 to 1936, more than thirty years before the subway station opened. By 1968 the name was free again.
