Mb04 belongs to the Honancho branch, the 3.2 km stub of the Marunouchi Line that leaves the main line at Nakano-sakaue, and it opened with that branch on 8 February 1961. The arrangement is modest: two side platforms on the first basement level, a single entrance, and the ticket machines and barriers at street level.

The depot is what makes the station unusual. Tokyo Metro’s Nakano maintenance works and training center lie beside it, so while daytime service is three-car trains shuttling to Honancho, at the morning and evening peaks some six-car trains start and finish their runs at Nakano-fujimicho and work right through to Ikebukuro at the far end of the main line. It is also among the quietest stations Tokyo Metro operates: 19,968 entries and exits a day in the 2025 survey, and in the 2013 figures the least used on its line.
