Kodemmacho Station (小伝馬町)
Kodemmacho is one of the plain ones: two side platforms, straight enough to see from end to end, opened with the Hibiya Line on 31 May 1962 and changed remarkably little since. There is ventilation in the ceiling but no platform cooling, and staff are posted on the platform only at rush hour. For almost five decades there was no elevator at all; one was finally built toward the Akihabara end with its own dedicated entrance and ticket gate inside Jisshi Park, opening on 19 February 2010. Departure melodies arrived on 7 February 2020.
The station’s name also belongs to the worst day in the Tokyo subway’s history. During the sarin attack of 20 March 1995, packages of the liquid were kicked out of a train onto the platform at H15; four people died here, more than at any other station struck that morning, and around 1,600 were hurt. The Sobu Rapid Line crosses beneath the station, but it has no platforms here, so the Hibiya Line is the only service that stops.
Finding Kodemmacho on the signs
Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.
Station numbers at Kodemmacho
Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Japan publishes two subway timetables: 平日 weekdays and 土休日 Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. There is no separate Sunday timetable, and the December 30 – January 3 period runs the holiday timetable.

Frequently asked questions
Not here. The Sobu Rapid Line passes directly underneath the station without platforms. To reach it you need to walk to Bakurocho or Shin-Nihombashi, each less than ten minutes away on foot, and both are JR East stations rather than subway ones.
On 20 March 1995 sarin released on a Hibiya Line train was kicked out onto this platform. Four passengers died at Kodemmacho, the highest toll of any station involved in the attack, and roughly 1,600 people were injured.
