F10 opened on 14 June 2008 with the Fukutoshin Line between Ikebukuro and Shibuya, on a site that had appeared in a 1972 plan under the name Mejiro-higashi. It is a deep station: the island platform lies at B4, about 33.8 m below the surface, under a ring road that was still being built, which makes it the fifth deepest on the Tokyo Metro network. Digging it turned up a quantity of Edo-period bowls and sake bottles.

Its name caused a small reshuffle above ground. Exit 1 opens in front of the Kishibojimmae stop of the Toden Arakawa Line, now the Tokyo Sakura Tram, and that line already had a stop called Zoshigaya; to avoid confusion it was renamed Toden-Zoshigaya when the subway opened. Exit 3, near the Takada 1-chome crossing on Mejiro-dori, was not in the original design and was added after residents asked for it; the passage to it has a moving walkway. With 19,807 users a day in 2025, Zoshigaya is the least used station on the Fukutoshin Line.

Finding Zoshigaya on the signs

Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.

Station numbers at Zoshigaya

Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Frequently asked questions

The platform is about 33.8 m below the surface, at B4, which makes it the fifth deepest station on the Tokyo Metro network. It was built under a ring road still under construction at the time, and the excavation produced a large number of Edo-period bowls and sake bottles.

Because two stops would have shared a name. The Toden Arakawa Line already had a Zoshigaya stop, so when the Fukutoshin Line station opened in 2008 the tram stop became Toden-Zoshigaya. The tram stop actually outside exit 1 is a different one, Kishibojimmae; Toden-Zoshigaya is the next one along, about 500 m from the subway.

Only the Fukutoshin Line stops at Zoshigaya Station. Its station number is F10.
On weekdays the earliest departure from Zoshigaya is around 05:09 and the latest around 00:22, depending on the line and the direction. Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays follow the other published timetable; the table above gives both for every line and direction.
According to the operators’ own accessibility pages there is a step-free route from the street through the gates to the platform. Tokyo Metro: the “1-route” (step-free street-gate-platform path by elevator, slope, stair lift or wheelchair escalator) is complete at all 180 stations; a separate list shows stations with an elevator-only 1-route. Lift locations and opening hours are on the operator page linked in the accessibility section above.
A single adult fare from Zoshigaya to Tokyo on Tokyo Metro lines is ¥209 with an IC card (¥210 with a paper ticket). Tokyo charges by distance, so the fare depends on how far you go and on which company’s lines you use — the full tables are on the fares page.
