Senkawa Station (千川)
Senkawa is not in Senkawa. The station stands in Kaname-cho, on high ground, with the Itabashi boundary — the line of the old Senkawa aqueduct — a short way beyond it. Two island platforms sit one above the other under Kaname-dori: the Yurakucho Line on the second basement level, which opened on 24 June 1983, and the Fukutoshin Line on the third.
That lower platform was a long time coming. Its structure was built with the rest of the station, and trains ran past it from 1994 on what was then called the Yurakucho New Line, but none of them stopped: the stairwell was boarded over and the elevator went no further than the upper level. It was fitted out and opened on 14 June 2008 as F07. The Yurakucho platform was the last on its line to receive platform doors, in February 2014. Tokyo Metro counted 40,286 passengers a day across both lines in 2025.
Finding Senkawa on the signs
Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.
Station numbers at Senkawa
Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

What is near Senkawa Station?
Little around the station reaches its own name. Kaname-dori runs overhead, with the Toshima ward’s western district office about 340 m away and the Chihaya library about 300 m. Small parks — Senkawa Shinsui Park, the Chihaya 2-chome park and Chihaya Park — are the main open space, and the rest is housing and the schools that go with it. A supermarket by the entrance is about as commercial as the immediate surroundings get, and buses from the stop above run towards Ikebukuro.

Frequently asked questions
The Fukutoshin Line platform was built along with the rest of the station in the early 1980s, but when trains began using its tracks in 1994 as the Yurakucho New Line they ran straight through without stopping. The space stayed sealed until it was fitted out and opened on 14 June 2008.
No. Senkawa Station stands in Kaname-cho, in Toshima City. The name comes from the surrounding area and from the old Senkawa aqueduct, whose course now marks the boundary with Itabashi a little beyond the station.
