Two stations share the name here, both below ground, built twenty-seven years apart and stacked rather than set side by side. Tokyo Metro’s island platform on the Hibiya Line, H12, opened on 28 February 1963; JR East’s Keiyo Line platforms opened on 10 March 1990 and lie deeper, with passageways joining the two. Keiyo Line trains here are barely out of Tokyo, which is only 1.2 km away as the line runs, and the platforms also take Musashino Line through services.

That second railway changed the station’s character completely: a Hibiya Line stop in a quiet corner of Chuo became the first call for commuters heading out to Chiba and the bay, and Tokyo Metro alone counted 104,411 entries and exits a day in its 2025 survey. Hibiya Line trains from the platform run through onto the Tobu network, so a train at H12 can be signed for a destination well beyond the city. Kayabacho and Tsukiji are the stops on either side.

Finding Hatchobori on the signs

Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.

Station numbers at Hatchobori

Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Japan publishes two subway timetables: 平日 weekdays and 土休日 Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. There is no separate Sunday timetable, and the December 30 – January 3 period runs the holiday timetable.

The JR Keiyo Line. Its island platform was opened on 10 March 1990 below the level of the Hibiya Line platform, which has been there since 1963, and the two are linked by underground passages. Keiyo Line trains run on to Soga, and Musashino Line services use the same tracks.
Very close on the Keiyo Line: the station is 1.2 km from that line’s western terminus beneath Tokyo Station, one stop away. On the subway the distances are longer, with Hatchobori lying 9.7 km from the Hibiya Line’s northern end at Kita-senju.
Only the Hibiya Line stops at Hatchobori Station. Its station number is H12.
On weekdays the earliest departure from Hatchobori is around 05:00 and the latest around 00:12, depending on the line and the direction. Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays follow the other published timetable; the table above gives both for every line and direction.
The operators publish a step-free “1-route” for every station, but the elevator detail for this station is not given as a full street-to-platform lift route. Tokyo Metro: the “1-route” (step-free street-gate-platform path by elevator, slope, stair lift or wheelchair escalator) is complete at all 180 stations; a separate list shows stations with an elevator-only 1-route. Check the operator page linked above before you travel.
