Nogizaka Station (乃木坂)
The planners meant to call this station Minami-Aoyama when they fixed the route in 1964; by the time C05 opened on 20 October 1972 it had taken the name of the Nogizaka, the slope that climbs past the shrine above. Its island platform curves sharply, as the one at neighboring Akasaka does, enough that a member of staff stands on it throughout the day to signal departures to the guard. Platform doors were added in the autumn of 2019.
Two details set it apart from the rest of the Chiyoda Line. There is no exit 4: the hotel it served closed on 29 December 2010, the entrance went with it, and the number has been left vacant ever since. And since 26 March 2016 the departure melody has been an instrumental version of “Kimi no Na wa Kibo” by the pop group Nogizaka46, played on the piano by one of its members, Erika Ikuta — a rare case of a station lending its name to a band and getting a tune back.
Finding Nogizaka on the signs
Every line gives the station its own letter-and-number code. You never have to read the Japanese name to find the right platform.
Station numbers at Nogizaka
Tokyo signposts every platform, exit and train door with a letter and a two-digit number. Matching the number is faster than reading the name — and it is what you will see on the map, in announcements and on the platform edge.

Frequently asked questions
Because of the name. Since 26 March 2016 the station has used an instrumental arrangement of “Kimi no Na wa Kibo” by Nogizaka46, the group named after this slope, performed on the piano by the member Erika Ikuta.
It was removed. Exit 4 led into a hotel building beside the station; when the hotel closed on 29 December 2010 the entrance was shut with it, and rather than renumber the others Tokyo Metro simply left the number unused.
