The tunnel was ready long before the trains. Civil works on this stretch under the Kawagoe-kaido were finished on 25 March 1975 – the road made land purchase almost unnecessary – but the sections on either side ran late, and the structure sat unused for eight years. The station finally opened on 24 June 1983 as Eidan-Narimasu, then the end of the Yurakucho Line from Shintomicho, and became a through station when the line reached Wakoshi on 25 August 1987. A pair of crossovers left over from its terminus days still lets trains turn back here when the service is badly disrupted.

What was then the Yurakucho New Line began calling on 7 December 1994, and that service became the Fukutoshin Line on 14 June 2008, so Y02 and F02 are two numbers for one island platform. The name Chikatetsu-narimasu dates from 1 April 2004 and marks the station out from Tobu’s Narimasu on the Tojo Line nearby. This is the only Tokyo Metro station in Itabashi, and the 2025 survey counted 52,661 entries and exits a day, 75th on the network.

What is near Chikatetsu-narimasu Station?

The Kawagoe-kaido runs directly above the platforms and the Tobu Tojo Line’s Narimasu station is a short walk away, which is what most of the shops and banks around the exits are oriented toward. Narimasu Library is about 240 m from the gates, the Act Hall community theatre around 260 m and Narimasu Park roughly 290 m. The Shirako river runs past the area, which sits on the break between the Musashino plateau and the Arakawa lowland and is noticeably hilly as a result.
